New consultant joins ALES project team

The Aboriginal Literacy and Essential Skills Project hosted by Literacy Victoria and funded by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada is pleased to announce that Michael J McCarthy of MMI has joined the project in a consulting role.

 

The focus of Michael’s activities will include:

 

  • Identifying local applications of Literacy and Essential Skills that support healthy community and family life.
  • Functioning in a liaison capacity between Literacy Victoria and the communities involved in the project.
  • Assisting in research to gather and organize information regarding the First Nation’s based literacy benchmarks.
  • Working collaboratively with the participating communities to create community learning plans.
  • Co-creating  Level 1 and Level 2 (IALS) First Nations-based Literacy and Essential Skills curriculum utilizing a mix of on-line, written and oral history literacy resources.

 

Michael is a well-organized, highly-developed creative and dynamic individual focused on the new economy of knowledge, networks, and compassion. Schooled in two worlds of post secondary education and tradition of culture within the aboriginal world, Michael's list of credentials and experience will be an asset to communities seeking diverse consultation and training needs. 

 

Accomplishments:

 

  • 1988 Province of British Columbia Special Contribution to prevention of alcohol and drug abuse, certificate of appreciation.
  • 1990 Youth delegate Constitutional Reform Commission.
  • 1991 Co-Founder: The Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé Youth Foundation.
  • 1999 National honourable mention for counselling, Nechi Training Research and Health Promotions Institute Alberta, Canada.
